"I lift up my eyes to the mountains-
where does my help come from?
My help comes from the Lord
the Maker of heaven and earth."

The Little Things
Date
Written in the Spring of 2020.
Location
Sandusky, MI
This 2020 poem is based off of a quote from Samwise Gamgee in The Lord of the Rings Trilogy: The Two Towers. I encourage you to find and read his entire heart-rendering speech, but here is the line which mostly inspired this poem:
"There's some good in the world, Mr. Frodo, and it's worth fighting for." ~ J.R.R Tolkien

~ The Little Things~
When the world is heavy,
Weighing down;
And all you want to do is frown,
See the light blue of the skies
And slowly, gently close your eyes.
When the earth is spinning,
Round and round;
And it’s confusing above ground,
Allow yourself to breathe the air
Let go of every worry, care.
When the night is dark,
No stars in sight;
And your heart is downcast, squeezed too tight,
Touch the grass and feel the dirt
Let go of all your sorrow, hurt.
For the world’s a place where love and grief
Grow together in this brief
Moment of our tiny lives
Where little things are what revives.
For the blue of skies, the air so fresh,
The soothing texture of the grass
Are what keeps us moving on this road
And lightens up our heavy load.
For when we have a Lord who knows
Of all our sorrows and our woes,
It’s easier to bear our cross
When our lives are at a loss.
Remember children of the Lord
That despite the biting of the sword
There’s good in this world, so much more,
And it is so worth fighting for.
